ACROSS THE DIVIDE. SOUTH CAUCASUS AND MOLDOVA
Exhibition / Reset Atelier / Brussels (28. 01. – 31.01.2025)

EN
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to visualise the cultural links at the interface between Europe and Asia: the South Caucasus and the Republic of Moldova. It invites to explore this region and rediscover lost knowledge and forms of collective memory. The »divide« in the exhibition title refers to a landscape that has been marked by violent ruptures and colonial divisions throughout history. It is neither an evasive word nor a forward-looking vision, but rather a condition that can be as colourful as the region itself – characterised by its complexity and overlapping influences. Through the spatial translation of the artistic, architectural, photographic, literary, and theatrical contributions, the exhibition’s scenography seeks to address notions of trauma, perseverance and resilience, as well as diversity, progress and societal transformation.
This is done through an examination of regional-territorial contexts that are visually mosaic and subtly hinted at by national borders. The floor of the exhibition space features a graphic map of these imaginary territories, including the Black and Kaspian Sea. Hanging the works along these »borders« or within the countries or regions in a very classical manner lends symbolic meaning to the intellectual and cultural heritage involved. The exhibition was developed with the contributing artists, architects and researchers in cooperation with the Goethe-Institutes in Georgia and Romania. It is a selection of projects, networks and artistic works established in the frameworks of the EU-funded project EU4Dialogue Component 3, implemented by the Goethe-Institut and consortium partners led by the DAAD in the South Caucasus and the Republic of Moldova, running from 2021 – 2025.
DE
This exhibition was produced with the financial Support of the European Union and the Goethe-Institut under the EU4Dialogue project
