TBILISI / ARCHITECTURE AT THE INTERSECTION OF CONTINENTS

In this year’s first exhibition in the Architecture in the Ringturm series, Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein profiles Georgia’s architectural heritage with an exhibition entitled “At the Intersection of Continents”.

The emphasis is on Tbilisi and its diverse architectural landscape and history from the end of the 19th century to the present day. The capital’s present-day cityscape is shaped by 19th century buildings designed along European lines, as well as by 20th century Soviet architecture, and includes numerous internationally renowned constructions. Ingenious architectural creations and the fertile artistic ground that emerged as a result of social and political upheaval are the focus of attention, and the exhibition also addresses various trends that have taken shape since the end of the Khrushchev era.

Zum Jahresauftakt präsentiert der Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein im Rahmen seiner „Architektur im Ringturm“-Reihe das architektonische Erbe Georgiens, am „Schnittpunkt der Kontinente“.

Im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung steht Tiflis und seine vielfältige Architekturlandschaft und -geschichte, Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis heute. Die im 19. Jahrhundert nach europäischem Vorbild realisierten Gebäude, ebenso wie die sowjetische Architektur im 20. Jahrhundert und damit auch zahlreiche Bauten internationalen Formats, prägen noch heute das Stadtbild. Die Ausstellung setzt sich mit der genialen architektonischen Kreativität und dem fruchtbaren künstlerischen Nährboden, der sich auch aufgrund der gesellschaftlichen und politischen Unruhen entwickelte, auseinander.
