Fried Nielsen worked as a German diplomat in Tbilisi in the early 1990s. During this time he made numerous trips through Georgia and discovered the history of the country for himself. A portrait of Georgia from ancient times to the 1990s. The first edition is long out of print, the second edition is still available. The third edition of the book was supplemented by a further chapter (epilogue), which describes the time of the 2000s.

Fried Nielsen war Anfang der 1990er Jahre als deutsche Diplomat in Tbilissi tätig. In dieser Zeit machte er zahlreiche Reisen durch Georgien und entdeckte für sich die Geschichte des Landes. Ein Porträt des Georgiens von der Antike bis in die 1990er Jahre. Die Erstauflage ist übrigens längst vergriffen, die zweite Auflage ist noch erhältlich. Die dritte Auflage des Buches wurde um ein weiteres Kapitel (Epilog) ergänzt, welches die Zeit der 2000er Jahre beschreibt.
